Whether wowing a crowd at an ASCAP event or having one of the top-selling duos in the industry backing her on stage, singer/songwriter Dayna Caddell is an anointed singer who real music lovers and worshippers can appreciate. No padding, no artificial flavoring, just God-given talent and a sincere love for the Lord.
Her voice, described by a sound engineer, “is like a warm cup of cocoa oozing down your throat on a cold winter day.”
As a child she was constantly surrounded by music. Her father, a former recording studio owner and road manager for jazz fusion group “Weather Report”, and her godfather, the late Latin jazz percussionist Willie Bobo, exposed her to countless jam sessions and concerts that often took place within their home. But what truly encouraged her to belt out that first note were the sounds of Rufus & Chaka Khan blaring throughout her home constantly by her eldest sister Brenda. Before she could recite her ABC’s she was emulating various artists and thoroughly absorbing it all. “I am the product of rock, hip-hop, soul, R&B, jazz and gospel all wrapped up in one. I was blessed to have experienced a variety of music and talent from the day I was born. I exude music. It’s so much of who I am!” Her versatility has afforded her the opportunity to sing background vocals for Diana Ross for the 1997 Super bowl, and appear on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno singing background for pop artist Bisou Phillips. In the Gospel and Christian music arena she’s worked with, stellar-award-winning producer Aaron Lindsey of New Breed, stellar and dove award winning artist Tonex, and producer Warryn Campbell.
Because of her professionalism and talent Mary Mary recently supported Dayna by singing background for her at the 2006 Stellar Award kick-off event. In college she had the opportunity to study under and perform with the incredible legendary Nancy Wilson who commented, “this lady has the most interesting sound. It’s like no other. She appears to be comfortable doing what she does. She’s incredible.” She also had the pleasure of being accompanied by, on many occasions, the late great pianist Johnny “Hammond” Smith who continuously encouraged her to pursue her dream. After completing an R&B demo the Holy Spirit continuously tugged at Dayna for several years until she realized that singing for the Lord was her hearts desire. “I had to sit still for a long time and focus on God and his WORD, and fast for weeks before it was revealed to me that serving God and leading people to Christ was the most important thing in my life,” she said. “We are very excited to be releasing Everyday as the first single,” said Mr. M, 40 Entertainment, Inc, executive producer. “It’s definitely time for Dayna to give her testimony.” " For years the music industry has been missing real depth and passion as it relates to the art form itself. Dayna encapsulates vocal prowess and unblemished delivery. Her voice pulls you in. I respect and appreciate her awesome gift,” Tonex. |
